Finding your Goddesses

Hello my Witchy Wanderers! Happy Thursday! As we journey through this week, let’s take a moment to reflect on our personal growth and the magic that surrounds us. Embrace the energies of the day, whether it's a time of introspection or action. Remember, every spell cast and intention set adds to the tapestry of our lives. May today bring you clarity and inspiration as we continue to explore the paths of witchcraft together.

I know that times are trying right now. Many are feeling the weight of uncertainty, and it can feel overwhelming as challenges arise both personally and collectively. In these moments of struggle, it’s essential to seek balance and find comfort in the practices that ground us. Whether through meditation, connecting with nature, or engaging in ritual, these tools can provide clarity and resilience. Remember that navigating through difficulty can lead to growth; allow yourself the space to adapt and discover deeper layers of strength within. Embrace the belief that better days will come, as the cycles of life remind us that change is always on the horizon.

This is what brings us to our topic today, how to find your Gods, Goddesses, and more. The journey of connecting with divine beings begins with self-exploration and openness to spiritual experiences. Start by reflecting on what resonates with you personally, whether through mythology, nature, or personal experiences. Consider the qualities you admire or seek in a divine figure; this can guide you toward the pantheon that aligns with your path. Engaging in meditation, reading sacred texts, and participating in rituals can also deepen your understanding and help you foster a relationship with these powerful entities. Remember, this process is unique to each individual, and there are no wrong ways to seek your spiritual companions.

My first calling…

At the age of 13, I felt an undeniable pull towards the divine during my visit to the Parthenon in Nashville. Standing before the impressive replica of the ancient temple, I was captivated by the sheer magnitude and beauty that seemed to whisper secrets of the past. As I walked the sunlit paths, a sensation washed over me—a calling that awakened something deep within.

The presence of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare, felt tangible in the air, as if she were inviting me into a realm of knowledge and strength. In that moment, I realized that my journey into the world of the divine was just beginning, marking the first step toward exploring the mysteries of goddess worship and spirituality.

It was about three years after that when I read The Mists of Avalon that I heard my second calling towards Goddess Worship. The pages of the book resonated with an ancient echo, awakening a deep-seated recognition within me. The portrayal of powerful female deities and the sacredness of the feminine offered a new lens through which to view both spirituality and the world around me.

I found myself captivated by the intertwining of myth and reality, stimulating a desire to connect with the Goddess in her many forms. This newfound passion ignited a journey of exploration, introspection, and reverence that shaped my practice and deepened my understanding of the divine feminine.

Something kept calling me back to the Greek Pantheon…

Something kept calling me back to the Greek Gods and Goddesses, an undeniable pull that resonated deep within my spirit. Their stories, rich with lessons of love, power, and transformation, echoed through time, each mythic tale inviting exploration into the complexities of human experience.

As I delved into their realms, I uncovered aspects of myself reflected in the divine, from the fierce independence of Artemis to the profound wisdom of Athena. The vibrant interplay of their personalities and their challenges seemed to mirror modern life's trials, offering not just escape, but guidance. In this intricate tapestry of divine narratives, I found inspiration and a sense of belonging, casting a light on my own path as I navigated the intricacies of existence.

I still consider myself to be a pretty eclectic Pagan, drawing inspiration from a wide range of traditions and practices. This eclecticism allows me the freedom to explore various beliefs, rituals, and philosophies, integrating what resonates with my spirit and worldview. I find beauty in the diversity of the Pagan community, embracing elements from Wicca, Druidry, folklore, and Indigenous practices, among others. Each aspect contributes to my personal understanding of the divine and the interconnectedness of all things. This fluid approach not only enriches my spiritual journey but also fosters a sense of openness and adaptability, encouraging me to remain curious and engaged with the evolving nature of my practice.

Through years of practice and attentive listening, I have discovered that my three Matrons are Athena, Hekate, and Persephone. Each embodies a distinct aspect of my journey and growth; Athena with her wisdom and strategic insight guides my quest for knowledge and understanding. Hekate, as the keeper of the crossroads and guardian of transitions, offers a powerful connection to the unseen and encourages me to embrace the transformative aspects of change. Meanwhile, Persephone symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and rebirth, reminding me of the beauty that can arise from darkness. Together, these three divine figures shape my path, enriching my craft and illuminating the way forward.

In paganism, Matrons and Patrons refer to divine figures or deities that individuals or groups choose to honor and work with in their spiritual practices. Matrons are typically associated with feminine energy and characteristics, representing attributes such as nurturing, wisdom, and protection. They may embody the qualities of goddesses or ancestral spirits that practitioners feel a connection to, providing guidance and support in their lives. Patrons, on the other hand, are often linked to masculine energies and can symbolize strength, guidance, and inspiration. Both Matrons and Patrons can serve as focal points in rituals, offerings, and personal devotions, helping practitioners forge a deeper relationship with the divine and enhance their spiritual journeys.

Hearing the call of your deity often begins with developing a deep sense of awareness and connection to your surroundings. Start by creating a quiet space for reflection and meditation, allowing your mind to settle and your intuition to surface. Pay attention to signs and symbols that resonate with you, whether they manifest as thoughts, feelings, dreams, or synchronicities in your daily life. Journaling your experiences can help clarify these messages and identify patterns over time. Engaging in practices such as prayer, offering, or ritual may also strengthen your connection, inviting your deity's presence into your life. Trust your instincts and be open to the ways in which your deity may communicate, as their call may come in forms you least expect.

Like I said before, the call to Athena came when I was at the Parthenon in Nashville. Standing beneath the grand columns, I felt an overwhelming presence wash over me, as if the spirit of the goddess herself lingered in the air. The sunlight played across the intricate details of the structure, illuminating each facet with a golden hue, and I was struck by a profound sense of clarity and purpose. In that moment, the connection to ancient wisdom stirred within me, guiding my intentions toward understanding and growth. It was an invitation to embrace the qualities of wisdom, courage, and strategic thinking that Athena embodies, catalyzing a transformative journey I could no longer ignore.

The Call to Hekate came when my father passed, a profound whisper in the depths of my grief that beckoned me toward the shadows. In the stillness of that poignant moment, I felt an ancient connection awaken within me, as if the goddess herself reached out to guide my steps through the labyrinth of loss. Hekate, with her keen understanding of transitions and the mysteries of life and death, offered a way to honor my father’s memory while exploring the depths of my sorrow. As I lit the candles in her honor and invoked her presence, I became aware of the transformation unfolding within me—a journey through darkness that promised illumination and wisdom, drawing me closer to the divine feminine and the unseen realms.

The call to Persephone came right before my wedding, a moment both poignant and surreal. As I stood in the midst of floral arrangements and whispered vows, an ethereal voice echoed within me, reminding me of the balance between light and darkness. It urged me to reflect on the cycles of life, love, and loss, inviting me to honor the depths of my own journey even amidst the joy of new beginnings. In that fleeting instant, I understood that just as Persephone navigated the realms of spring and winter, I too would walk the path between these contrasting worlds, carrying the essence of each within me as I embarked on this new chapter.

When you hear the call…

When seeking your Matron or Patron, it is essential to remain open and observant, as signs, messages, and visions often manifest in subtle ways. Pay attention to recurring symbols, animals, or numbers that appear in your daily life, as these may serve as guidance from the divine. Be mindful of dreams, as they can reveal significant insights or connections to specific deities.

Meditation and quiet reflection can also help to clarify your intentions and deepen your awareness of any messages that may come through. Trust your intuition and allow your spiritual journey to unfold, recognizing that guidance can arrive in unexpected forms, urging you to explore and engage with the energies that resonate with you.

In moments of uncertainty, turn your heart and mind towards the divine and ask the deities above for their guidance. Feel the energy surrounding you as you pose your questions, seeking clarity in your path. Acknowledge their presence and wisdom, and trust that they will illuminate the areas of your life where you most need support. The answers may come in whispers, signs, or deep intuition; remain open to receiving their messages, for they are always willing to assist those who earnestly seek their counsel.

I hope this helps inspire you on your witchy journey as you navigate the rich tapestry of practices, beliefs, and traditions that connect us to the natural world. Embrace the wisdom of the earth, and let it guide you in your personal exploration of spells, rituals, and intuition. Remember that every step you take, whether in the form of quiet reflection, crafting potions, or working with the cycles of the moon, is a unique expression of your own power. Allow your curiosity to lead you, cultivate patience with your growth, and trust that each experience will bring you closer to understanding your path as a witch.

Remember, if you haven't heard the call yet, it doesn’t mean they don’t hear you. The Gods/Goddesses are in constant communication, even when we feel disconnected or unheard. The subtle whispers and signs may not always resonate in our conscious awareness, but that does not diminish their presence. Trust that the energies around you are listening and responding, even in ways that are not immediately obvious. Your journey is unique, and the timing of your awareness will align with your growth and readiness. Be patient, remain open, and continue to nurture your intuition; the call will come when you are truly prepared to receive it.

Much love and magic,

Rebecca
